Winner of the 2019 Tommy Smith Scholarship – John Michael Fay IV

winner

John Michael Fay IV entered our contest with a remarkable essay and we are happy to announce that he is the winner of the scholarship donation.

John Michael Fay IV, known as “JM” by his family, friends, teachers, and coaches, will graduate from Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory High School in May 2019 with a 3.4 GPA. In addition to being a strong academic student, JM is known for his colorful humor, and has made the Honor Roll several times throughout his high school career.

JM attended Archbishop McCarthy High School during his freshman and sophomore years, where he was a member of both the 2016 and 2017 State Champion Baseball teams. His 2017 team was also named National Champions. JM was named team captain his senior year at Chaminade-Madonna, and proved to be the team’s emotional leader while living up to his nickname “Big Hit Fay,” as he continuously delivered clutch performances throughout the 2019 season. JM led the Lions in runs scored, and tied for the team lead in home runs.

JM attended Everglades Elementary in Weston, and to this day returns every summer to assist teachers in preparing the school and their classrooms for the upcoming school year. JM is a member of The Local Church in Davie, and resides in Sunrise with his mother Janet and his sister Jacalyn.

JM will be attending Florida State College of Jacksonville in the fall where he will continue his baseball career playing for the Blue Wave.
